Shimla → Chitkul
Visit Chandranahan Lake early morning — a sacred glacial lake revered by locals as the source of the Pabbar River. Its blue-green waters are surrounded by snow and rock, and the reflections of the peaks above are flawless. The lake features in local mythology as the bathing place of celestial dancers. Begin the long descent through the stunning Ruinsara Valley toward Barua, passing through meadows that progressively gain trees — first stunted birch, then full forest. The sense of descending from a high, harsh world into a green, gentle one is deeply moving. Camp in a forest clearing above Barua village.
