Tirthan Valley → Shimla
Pre-dawn wake-up (5:00 AM). Drive to the birding hotspot (15 min) — a clearance at 2,400m in the GHNP buffer zone. Dawn chorus observation: listen for the calls of the Himalayan Monal (Himachal's state bird), Koklass Pheasant, and the elusive Western Tragopan. With luck: spot flocks of Himalayan Griffon Vultures soaring above. Mid-morning trek (4 km) deeper into the oak-rhododendron belt — look for woodpeckers (Brown-fronted, Scaly-bellied), nuthatches, and treecreepers. Packed lunch in the forest. Afternoon: return to camp. Photography sorting session and bird checklist review.
