Spring Kashmir — 1.5 million tulips, empty houseboats, Gulmarg snowmelt meadows, and the valley before the tourists arrive
Kashmir in spring: when the tulips bloom in the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden (Asia's largest, 1.5 million flowers), the Mughal gardens shake off winter, and the valley turns impossibly green after months of snow. Spring is Kashmir's secret season — the tourists haven't arrived yet, the houseboat owners are relaxed, and the saffron fields are just starting to purple. This trip times you for the tulip festival (usually late March to early April) and adds Gulmarg's upper meadows where the snow is melting into wildflower patches, and Pahalgam where the Lidder river is swollen with snowmelt and running fast through the pine valley.
