Inaugurated in 2020, the 9.02 km Atal Tunnel bypasses the snow-bound Rohtang Pass and gives Manali year-round road access to Sissu, Keylong and Spiti. Bored through the Pir Panjal range at around 3,000 m, it cuts the Manali–Lahaul journey by several hours and has become a sightseeing stop in its own right for its engineering and dramatic mountain portals.
