Bhagsu

Bhagsu is also called Bhagsunag. It is a village in the Dharamshala area of Kangra district, about two kilometres from McLeodganj. It takes its name from the old Bhagsunag Shiva temple and its pool, a place of pilgrimage for generations. The Bhagsunag waterfall is a short walk beyond. The village has since grown into a favourite with travellers, with guesthouses, yoga studios, rooftop cafes and live music. Many people use it as a quieter base than McLeodganj itself. Trails go past the Shiva Cafe to Dharamkot and the Triund trek, with views towards the Dhauladhar range. July and August bring some of the heaviest rain in Himachal, so spring and autumn are the best times. Summers are pleasant, and winters are cold with some snow on the ridge. It can be crowded on weekends, especially in spring and early summer. Allow a half-day for the temple and waterfall, or stay a few nights for treks and cafes. There is no permit requirement, and taxis run from McLeodganj to the village.
