Billing

Billing is a high, open meadow at around 2,400 m on the Dhauladhar slopes. A steep road about 14 km long climbs to it from Bir. It is the take-off point for paragliding flights that land in the fields at Bir. The thermals and steady winds here make it a favourite with pilots from across the world. Billing hosted the Paragliding World Cup in 2015. It also holds competitions and cross-country flights in the flying season. Tandem flights for beginners last roughly 15 to 30 minutes. The meadow has views over the Kangra valley and a small cluster of food stalls. It is also a starting point for walks and treks into the Dhauladhars. Flying is best in March to June and October to November. The monsoon grounds most flights, and winter brings cold and sometimes snow. Wind can cancel flights at short notice, so keep a spare day. Book with a registered operator and check the current pilot certification. Most visitors stay in Bir and go up for the morning flights.
