Chail was built by the Maharaja of Patiala as a summer capital after he was barred from Shimla, and today is known for the Chail Palace, the wildlife sanctuary, and a cricket and polo ground at 2,444 m that is among the highest in the world. Dense deodar forest and views toward Shimla and Kasauli make it a peaceful getaway.
