Chidiatapu

Chidiya Tapu, or Bird Island, is at the southern end of South Andaman. It is roughly 25 km from Port Blair, along a road through forest and mangroves. It is a quiet change from the busier beaches. You can watch birds in the early morning and visit the Chidiya Tapu Biological Park. Munda Pahar beach has driftwood along a small cove. The sunset point is among the most popular in the Andamans. The sun drops over the Indian Ocean behind the forested headland. Most visitors come on a half-day trip from Port Blair, often timed to reach the sunset point in the late afternoon. A few stay in simple lodges nearby to hear the dawn bird chorus. Swimming is not the focus here. Rocky stretches and currents make it better for walking, photos and birdwatching. Bring insect repellent and carry water. Plan to head back before dark, as the road has limited street lighting.
