Chitkul, at about 3,450 m in the Sangla (Baspa) valley, is often called the last village of India before the old Hindustan–Tibet trade route reaches the frontier. It is prized for its wooden houses, the Baspa river, apple orchards and crisp mountain air, and is a highlight of any Kinnaur journey.
