Elephant Beach

Elephant Beach is on the northern side of Havelock (Swaraj Dweep). You can take a short boat ride from Havelock jetty, or walk along a forest trail from the road. At high tide the trail may not be passable. The draw is the shallow reef just off the sand, which is handy for first-time snorkellers. The clear water gives the beach its colour. Operators on the beach offer snorkelling, sea-walking, jet-skiing, banana-boat rides and glass-bottom boat trips. The reef has suffered from coral bleaching in recent years, so expect patchy coral. Conditions change with the tide and visibility. For better reef, many divers take boat trips to other Havelock sites. The beach can get crowded in the peak months of December to February. Go early, take cash for activity fees and sun protection, and do not step on coral. People usually spend a half-day here from Havelock.
