Jalori Pass

Jalori Pass is at about 3,120 m. On NH305, it links the Banjar and Tirthan side of Kullu with Ani and the Shimla district side. It is mostly open outside winter. Heavy snow usually shuts it for some weeks between December and February. People know the pass more for its walks than for the road. A forest trail of about 5 km leads to Serolsar Lake, which is sacred to the goddess Budhi Nagin. Another ridge walk leads to the ruins of Raghupur Garh, with views of the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal. Meadows, oak, deodar and rhododendron line the route. Small dhabas near the top serve tea and maggi. Most visitors drive up from Jibhi or Shoja in under an hour. Carry water and warm layers. Start early to miss the afternoon cloud. Check road conditions in early spring and late autumn. It fits well with a stay in Jibhi or Tirthan.
