Kibber

Kibber is a village high in the Spiti valley, at about 4,270 m and 19 km from Kaza. It has a monastery, stone-walled fields and a village life built on barley and livestock. It borders the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary, home to snow leopards, ibex and blue sheep. It is the main base for winter snow leopard trips, usually run from January to March with local guides. In summer a bus connects it to Kaza. Treks to nearby peaks and a high pass in the Zanskar range between Spiti and Ladakh start here. The Chicham Bridge, linking Kibber with Chicham, is a short drive away. Kibber is often paired with Key Monastery and Langza. Nights are very cold and the altitude can bring headaches. Spend time in Kaza first, drink water and sleep well. Winter visits need warm gear and flexible plans, since snow can block the road to Kaza.
