Mcleodganj

McLeodganj, known as Little Lhasa, is a suburb of Dharamshala in Kangra district. It is the headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile. The Tsuglagkhang complex is the centre of the town. It has the Dalai Lama's temple, a Tibetan museum and the Namgyal Monastery. Many visitors join a prayer session or watch the monks debate. The lanes are lined with momo shops, bakeries, Tibetan handicraft stalls and cafes. Short walks lead to Bhagsu waterfall, Dharamkot and Naddi. The Triund trek, a popular day hike or overnight, climbs toward the snow-capped Dhauladhar. Spring and autumn give the clearest views and the most comfortable weather. Summer is warm in the lower town and monsoon rain is heavy. Winter brings cold nights and some snow on the upper ridges. The town is steep and crowded at peak times. Allow extra time for the drive up from Dharamshala and Gaggal airport.
