Nakthan

Nakthan is a small settlement on the footpath from Barshaini towards Rudra Nag and Kheerganga, in the upper Parvati valley. The trail goes through fields of potatoes and beans, and through pine and deodar forest, with the Parvati river below. Traditional timber houses and a few simple cafes and homestays line the way. Trekkers can rest here and chat with local families. Many people walk through Nakthan on the way up to Kheerganga without stopping. But a night here is quieter than the camps at Kheerganga itself. You can usually walk this trail from spring through autumn. It is slippery in the monsoon and often under snow in winter. Carry water, cash and a rain layer, because shops are few and mobile coverage is patchy. Barshaini is the roadhead. You can reach it by bus or car from Kasol and Manikaran.
