Neil Island

Neil Island, officially Shaheed Dweep, lies about 36 km northeast of Port Blair. It is a short ferry hop from Havelock. It is smaller and quieter, with paddy fields, banana groves and small village roads. Most people get around on a rented bicycle or scooter. Bharatpur Beach has shallow water that is good for snorkelling and glass-bottom boat rides. Laxmanpur Beach is the favourite spot for sunset. The Natural Bridge is a coral rock arch near Sitapur, and it is best seen at low tide. There is little night life, and that is part of the charm. It suits travellers who want to unwind after Havelock. Rooms are simpler than on Havelock, so book ahead in the peak months from December to February. Most itineraries spend one night here, or two for a slow trip. You travel between Port Blair and Havelock by ferry. Carry cash, as ATMs and card machines are few.
