Radhanagar Beach

Radhanagar Beach is also called Beach No. 7. It runs for about two kilometres along the west coast of Havelock (Swaraj Dweep), roughly 12 km from the jetty. The sand is pale and fine and the water is clear. The trees behind it are protected forest, not hotels, so the setting stays open and uncluttered. It has Blue Flag certification. Time magazine named it the best beach in Asia in 2004. Most visitors come to swim in the morning and watch the sunset in the evening. The sky turns orange over the Andaman Sea. There are changing rooms, lifeguards and a few snack stalls, but no big commercial buildings on the sand. Swimming is usually gentle. In rough weather the sea can have strong currents and rip patterns. Follow the lifeguard flags and do not go far out. You can reach the beach easily by taxi or scooter from Havelock. Most travellers visit once, for sunrise or sunset.
