Rampur

Rampur Bushahr lies on the left bank of the Sutlej, at about 1,000 m. It was the winter capital of the former Bushahr state, whose summer capital was Sarahan. It was an important trading post on the old Hindustan-Tibet trade route. The annual Lavi fair, held in November, still brings traders and villagers from Kinnaur and Spiti. They come to buy wool, dried fruit and horses. The Padam Palace of the Bushahr rulers and the old Raghunath and Narsingh temples are the main sights in town. Rampur is low and warm in summer. Most travellers pass through on the way to Sarahan, Narkanda or Kinnaur. They use it for a meal, fuel or an overnight stop. It has banks, ATMs, fuel and hotels. Spring and autumn are comfortable, and early winter is a good time to catch the fair. Landslides can disrupt the highway in monsoon.
