Solan, at about 1,500 m, takes its name from the Shoolini Devi temple and is nicknamed the Mushroom City for its fungiculture, as well as being a historic centre of brewing. It is a gateway on the Kalka–Shimla route with pleasant hills and the Karol Tibba trek nearby.
