Solang

Solang, also known as the Solang Nala, is a side valley at the head of the Kullu valley. It is about 14 km north-west of Manali on the road toward Rohtang, at about 2,560 m. Wide grassy slopes and a backdrop of snow peaks make it the main adventure ground of the Manali area. In winter you can ski and snowboard, with instructors and rental equipment. In summer the same slopes are used for paragliding, zorbing, horse riding and a gondola ropeway. Facilities are mostly seasonal shops and activity stalls. The south portal of the Atal Tunnel is close by. That makes Solang a stop on the way to Sissu and Lahaul. It is crowded at weekends and holidays, so go early and agree on activity prices before booking. Snowfall can close the road at short notice in winter, so check conditions with your hotel. Carry warm layers even in summer, as the weather changes quickly.
