Solang Valley

Solang Valley rises above Manali on the road toward Rohtang and the Atal Tunnel, at roughly 2,560 m. Open grassy slopes are ringed by pine forest and peaks. It is the most visited adventure area near Manali. From December to March the slopes have snow. Operators offer skiing and snowboarding lessons, sledging and snow walks. From spring to autumn the activities switch to paragliding, parachuting, zorbing, quad biking and horse riding. A gondola ropeway climbs the hillside for views of the Beas valley and the glaciated peaks. Food stalls and cafes line the base. A few guesthouses are there for those who want to stay close, though most visitors come on a day trip from Manali. Expect crowds at weekends and during holidays. Confirm activity prices in advance and wear warm, waterproof layers. If snow is forecast, check road conditions, as the road can get slippery or close for a while.
