Tani Jubbar

Tani Jubbar is a small natural lake in the forests above Narkanda, in Shimla district. It is around 7 km from the town. The last part of the road is narrow and rough, so few people come. The lake is quiet and still, with deodar, oak and rhododendron on the slopes around it. Locals believe it is linked to a nearby deity temple, and villagers treat the water as sacred. It makes a good half-day trip from Narkanda. You can walk through the forest, have a picnic and enjoy views of the ridges around. Narkanda is at about 2,700 m, roughly 60 km from Shimla on the Hindustan-Tibet Road. It also has Hatu Peak at about 3,400 m, apple orchards and a small ski slope in winter. There are few facilities at the lake, so carry water and snacks. After rain or snow, ask locally about the road before you go up.
