Tosh

Tosh is a village in Kullu district, at about 2,400 m. It stands on a mountain slope above the right bank of the Parvati river. You reach it from Barshaini, past Manikaran and Kasol. It is generally quieter and cheaper than Kasol. It suits travellers who prefer slow days to sightseeing. Stone-and-wood houses cling to the slope, with terraced fields below and cafes and guesthouses along the lanes. Walking is the main activity, to the nearby Tosh stream, the waterfall and viewpoints. Tosh is also a staging point for hikes such as the Pin-Parvati and Kheerganga routes, which begin at Barshaini or Pulga. Winters are cold. Snow can block the road and cut power and networks. The monsoon brings heavy rain and landslides, so plan for early summer or autumn. Mobile and internet are patchy. Carry cash, because ATMs lower down the valley are not always reliable.
