Triund

Triund is a meadow on a spur of the Dhauladhar range in Kangra district, at roughly 2,800 to 2,900 m, above McLeodganj. The trail is about 9 km one way from McLeodganj, or about 4 km above the Galu Devi temple road-head. It takes three to five hours through oak and rhododendron forest. It is one of Himachal's most popular beginner treks. At the top is an open ridge facing the Dhauladhar wall, with the Kangra valley on the other side. You get sunrise and sunset views. Most people camp overnight in tents run by local operators. Basic food and tea are available. The Snowline cafe is further up toward Laka Got and the Indrahar Pass. The monsoon makes the path slippery and foggy. Winter brings snow and freezing nights. Check conditions and carry warm layers and water. It is a good acclimatisation outing before higher treks. It is easy to combine with Dharamshala and McLeodganj.
