Una is the district headquarters of Una district. It lies in the plains on the Himachal-Punjab border, at roughly 370 m above sea level. It is more a gateway than a place to stay. Una Himachal railway station links to Delhi and Ambala. Roads run north into Kangra, Hamirpur and Mandi, and south to Punjab. Travellers use it as an arrival or drop point for Himachal circuits. This saves the long drive from Delhi or Chandigarh. Chintpurni, a major Shakti pilgrimage temple, is in the district. Dera Baba Barbhag Singh is another local stop. Summers are hot and humid, so it is best used in winter, spring and autumn. The cool starts on the drive up to the hills. Una is not on the main Kinnaur-Spiti route, so most operators there would pick up from Shimla or Chandigarh. But it works for Dharamshala, Kangra, Mandi and Manali itineraries.
