Spiti Losar — the valley's own New Year — falls in winter, usually November or December, before the Tibetan Losar that most people know. This is when Spiti celebrates itself: Buchen lamas from Pin Valley perform masked dances that tell stories of Padmasambhava, every household brews barley chhang and arak, and entire villages eat together in community halls while the temperature outside hits -20°C. This trip times your arrival for Losar week, giving you a front-row seat to a festival that tourists almost never see. You'll stay in Kaza, visit the ceremonies at Key Monastery, and eat more momos than you thought humanly possible.
