Drive yourself through the Trans-Himalayas. This self-drive expedition provides the route, the accommodation bookings, the support vehicle, and the local knowledge — you provide the driving. The Spiti circuit via Shimla-Kinnaur is some of the most challenging and rewarding driving in India: narrow mountain roads, river crossings, high-altitude passes, and landscapes that make you pull over every ten minutes to stare. As a bonus, this itinerary includes an excursion to Nako — a high-altitude village with a sacred lake that most Spiti trips skip. Your car should have decent ground clearance. Your co-pilot should know how to read a map when the GPS signal dies (which it will).
