onwardsRoopkund — the Skeleton Lake — is one of India's most dramatic and mysterious high-altitude destinations. At 5,029m, this glacial lake holds the skeletal remains of hundreds of humans from the 9th century CE, discovered only when the snow melts each summer. The trek to Roopkund has recently been reopened after environmental preservation measures were put in place.
This 8-day expedition takes you through some of Uttarakhand's most spectacular landscapes: the pristine Wan village, the expansive Ali Bugyal and Bedni Bugyal (among India's finest high-altitude meadows), dense rhododendron forests, and the dramatic Junargali ridge with views of Trishul (7,120m) and Nanda Ghunti (6,309m).
Roopkund is a challenging trek demanding good fitness and prior trekking experience. But for those who make it, the rewards are extraordinary — the mystery of the lake, the grandeur of the Himalayan panorama, and the satisfaction of completing one of India's most iconic treks.
