A walking tour of Shimla that ignores the Mall Road and goes where the history actually is. Start at the Viceregal Lodge (where the 1945 Shimla Conference failed to prevent Partition), walk through the deodar forest to Christ Church (stained glass designed by Kipling's father), then descend into the Lower Bazaar — the pre-British market lanes that tourists on the Mall never see. The walk includes Scandal Point (named after a 1890s elopement rumour), Lakkar Bazaar (deodar woodcarvers), and the British Cemetery at Boileauganj where headstones tell stories of young soldiers dead at 23. A 3-4 hour walk. 200 years of history. Zero Mall Road crowds.
